About 400 officers conducted raids in Montreal during the RCMP’s operation called Chrome. On March 26, 20 search warrants were executed on four businesses, three of them bars, and 16 homes in Montreal. Thirteen people were arrested.
The Integrated Proceeds of Crime Unit (IPOC) and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) were also involved in the investigation, according to the RCMP.
Montreal Police and Montreal RCMP were part of the raids. Police also called in help from four emergency response teams so the raids could be simultaneous. Emergency response teams came from B. C., Ontario, and New Brunswick to help.
Police were targeting a criminal organization and targeted money laundering and cocaine trafficking.
The searches were result of an investigation by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU).
The areas being searched were Fleury Est and J.-J.-Gagnier streets in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.
