Whitehorse RCMP arrest Nicholas Rear in weapons investigation

Yukon RCMP charged Nicholas Rear, 26, of Whitehorse, in a weapons investigation.

On Jan. 23, the Yukon RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) located a stolen vehicle in downtown Whitehorse. Police were aware of additional incidents potentially involving weapons related to this vehicle, and in order to ensure public safety, the Yukon RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Yukon RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS) helped arrest the suspects associated to this vehicle.

Rear was arrested outside on warrants of a business in downtown Whitehorse. He was additionally charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

During a search of the vehicle and a hotel room associated to Rear, police located two replica firearms as well as evidence to support charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

One other person was arrested but has been released without charges.

Rear appeared in court and was remanded in custody until his Jan. 24 appearance.
