Two people with a loaded 9mm handgun were arrested after Grande Prairie RCMP saw the vehicle they were in driving at a high rate of speed in the Morgan Meadows area on Jan. 2.
Inside the vehicle, police also found pepper and bear spray.
Police then got a search warrant and raided a home in Grande Prairie associated to the passenger. There officers seized 12 firearms, three BB guns, ammunition, and bear and pepper spray.
Marcus Lake, 22, of Grande Prairie, was charged with possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a weapon at an unauthorized place, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm knowing unauthorized, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without a license, and unsafe storage of firearms.
A 15-year-old male youth, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon at an unauthorized place, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, and possession of a restricted firearm, with ammunition, without a licence.
Lake and the youth were brought before a justice of the peace who released them on conditions. The youth is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on Jan. 8, 2024, and Lake is scheduled to appear at the same courthouse on Jan. 24, 2024.
