Thirty-six-year-old Tristan Abbott of Fort McMurray was arrested after witnesses watched as him stabbing a man outside a business in the 9900 block of MacDonald Avenue in Fort McMurray.
Wood Buffalo RCMP got a call about the stabbing around 1 p.m. on Dec. 17. Wood Buffalo RCMP, Fort McMurray Fire and EMS, all responded.
The 51-year-old male victim of Fort McMurray was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigation Services, Specialized Investigations Unit, and Forensic Identification Services assisted with the police investigation and have determined that the two men weren’t known to each other prior to the incident.
Abbott had fled on foot before police arrived on scene.
Wood Buffalo RCMP, Police Dog Services, General Investigation Services, Police and Crisis Team and Municipal Traffic Services contained the area and located and arrested Abbott a short time later. He was charged with aggravated assault and obstructing a peace officer. He was held for a Judicial Interim Hearing and remanded into custody.
He appears next in the Alberta Court of Justice – Fort McMurray on Jan. 8, 2024.
