Melissa Galea, 41, has been found guilty on Nov. 24 of first-degree murder and arson. She will be sentenced on Jan, 5, 2024.
She was charged by York Regional Police for the homicide that occurred in July 2019 in the Town of Aurora.
On July 27, 2019, shortly before 1 a.m., York Regional Police and Central York Fire Services were called to a house on Edward Street for a report of a fire. Responding officers found the house fully engulfed in flames. Shortly after 2 a.m., firefighters controlled the fire and were able to enter the home where they located the deceased body of 38-year-old Troy Stephen Oakley.

The death was deemed suspicious and the Homicide Unit was engaged. That same day, investigators arrested then-36-year-old Melissa Galea of Aurora in connection with the death. She was charged with first-degree murder and arson.
