How to keep porch pirates from stealing your deliveries

With the holiday shopping season well under way, Halifax District RCMP is reminding residents to stay vigilant and take precautions to avoid becoming victims of theft.

During this time of year, with an increase in online shopping, RCMP officers are regularly called upon to respond to incidents involving porch pirates.

Follow these simple tips to avoid having your deliveries snatched by lurking thieves:

-Schedule deliveries for times when you’re at home.

-Use a secure delivery locker or a nearby pick-up location.

-Consider redirecting packages to your workplace or a trusted neighbour’s address.

-Request a signature for delivery.

-Install security cameras to monitor your doorstep remotely and capture images of robbers.

-Report any suspicious neighbourhood activity.

If you’re a victim of theft, please contact police at 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Every incident reported will assist officers in establishing patrols of targeted communities.
