Junior Ashu (GoFundMe)
On May 15, 2025, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit with the assistance of the St. Albert RCMP Detachment arrested 26-year-old Edmonton resident Andrew Barnett. Barnett has been charged with first-degree-murder.
Alberta RCMP have laid charges in connection with the Feb. 7, 2025 fatal shooting on 600 Signal Road in Fort McMurray. The deceased has been identified at 24-year-old Edmonton resident Junior Ashu.
Barnett has been taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for May 28, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray.
A GoFundMe for Ashu’s family says, “It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I share the tragic loss of my brother, Junior, who was senselessly shot downtown during a lunch break and lost his life. Junior was a hardworking man with high values and strong standards. He never smoked or did drugs and always gave his best for his family and loved ones.
Junior leaves behind a 3-year-old child who now faces growing up without a father. He was an amazing brother, son, and friend—someone who brought light to everyone around him. His sudden and tragic passing has left our family devastated, and we are now focused on giving him the farewell he deserves.
This fundraiser is to assist with funeral expenses and other immediate needs for Junior’s family. Any contribution, whether large or small, will be deeply appreciated during this incredibly difficult time.
Junior’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and we are grateful for your love and support as we navigate this unimaginable loss.
