Airdrie RCMP investigating Bitcoin scam

Airdrie RCMP is currently investigating 6 different instances, dating back to Sept. 16, 2024, of community members receiving scam Bitcoin e-mails. These e-mails ask for personal information including their house photo, address and phone number.

The scammer states they have seen their browsing history and have access to their computers and smartphones. The scammer also states they have footage of the individuals doing private things in their bedroom to which they created screen shots from. The scammer then requests $2,000 USD in Bitcoin in order to wipe out this information.

RCMP are advising citizens that this is a scam. Please DO NOT send any money to anyone unless you know it is a legitimate company.
