Two Calgary Police officers injured following collision

Two Calgary Police Service members sustained injuries following a collision in northwest Calgary.

On June 27, just before midnight, two CPS patrol officers were conducting a traffic stop on Beddington Trail N.W., west of Hidden Valley Link N.W. They were sitting in a marked police vehicle, which was pulled over near the curb on the right side of the road, when a silver SUV struck their vehicle. The driver of the vehicle pulled over at the scene.

Two additional CPS officers attended to assist and observed signs of impairment when speaking to the driver of the SUV. The driver was taken into custody at the scene and refused to provide a breath sample upon demand.

The officers in the vehicle were treated for injuries that did not require admission to the hospital.

As a result of the collision and investigation, Oghenetega IYEKE, 40, has been charged with two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm and one count of failure or refusal to comply with a demand – alcohol.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024.
