A 37-year-old man was sentenced March 18 to 30 months in prison after being found guilty by a jury of sexual assault against a 19-year-old woman.
The jury had concluded that Jared Allan Calliou had sexually assaulted the woman through anal intercourse.
The sexual assault happened on June 6, 2020, court heard.
Calliou had gone to a bar in downtown Edmonton. After the bar closed, Calliou and the victim went to her home and engaged in consensual sexual touching, including penile vaginal intercourse. Approximately one to two minutes after the intercourse began the offender stopped, pulled his penis out of the victim’s vagina, flipped her over and inserted his penis into her anus.
The victim didn’t consent to the anal intercourse. She told Calliou to stop but he didn’t. The anal intercourse lasted, in total, less than one minute.
Calliou wasn’t wearing a condom and no lubricant was used. The anal intercourse caused the victim to experience pain which persisted for approximately two days.
Calliou, who is now 37, is a successful businessperson, has been married for 13 years and has four children. They now reside on a farm in Manitoba and he “continues to have the very strong support of his wife,” court heard.
