Two people were seriously injured after their vehicle was hit by a drunk driver on Feb. 11.
Parkland RCMP responded to a collision between two vehicles at about 10:02 p.m. They say a pick-up truck had travelled some distance after the collision before coming to a stop, despite having major front-end damage. The impaired driver of the truck wasn’t injured.
The two elderly occupants of a small sedan were taken to hospital in Edmonton. One has serious life-threatening injuries, the other has serious injuries.

During the investigation, police noted signs of intoxication from the driver of the pick-up truck and the 40-year-old man from Gibbons, Alta. was arrested and charges are pending with two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm and two counts of failing to stop after a collision causing bodily harm.
The RCMP collision analyst attended the scene and is assisting with the incident. The investigation is on-going.
The accused is set to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain on March 27. His name cannot be released until charges have been sworn, say police.
