The Edmonton Police Service has charged two men in relation to the homicide of a 32-year-old man in 2022.
On Sept. 25, 2022, Northeast Branch patrol responded to a stabbing at the Edmonton Institution. It was reported to police that Nicholas Job, 32, was stabbed during an altercation and was treated and transported to hospital by EMS with serious injuries. Job survived the stabbing and was released from hospital days later, returning to the institution. Job was then released from the Edmonton Institution on Nov. 4, 2022.
On Nov. 25, 2022, police responded to a home invasion in the area of 109 Avenue and 97 Street. The victim, Nicholas Job, had been assaulted and shot and was subsequently treated and transported to hospital by EMS with serious injuries.
On Jan. 8, 2023, Job passed away in hospital. No charges were laid in relation to the stabbing or home invasion.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Job on Jan. 11, 2023, but the cause and manner of death remained inconclusive pending further examination and testing.
In August 2023, the medical examiner confirmed Job died as a result of a stab wound sustained during the altercation at the Edmonton Institution in September 2022. The manner of death was subsequently deemed homicide and the EPS Homicide Section assumed the investigation.
On Feb. 7, and Feb. 8, Christian Joffre Ouelette, 26, and Wacey Dillon Boudreau, 30, were each charged with second degree murder. Both men were incarcerated at the time of their arrests.
“Due to the circumstances surrounding Mr. Job’s death, the cause and manner were ambiguous, and it was initially suspected his death was caused by a separate and unrelated non-criminal incident,” says Staff Sergeant Colin Leathem with the EPS Homicide Section.
“While extensive testing can delay investigations, we are thankful for the medical examiner’s thorough work in this case, as it enabled us to pursue a criminal investigation and confidently charge those responsible for his death.”
