Nearly a year after a home in the Royal Oak subdivision was riddled with bullets, police have arrested and charged a 32-year-old Edmonton man in connection with the early morning attack.
Tyler Lloyd Melnick, 32, of Edmonton, faces a charge of recklessly discharging a firearm following an investigation by the Leduc RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS).
The shooting was first reported on May 1, 2025, at approximately 5:18 a.m., when Leduc RCMP received a call that a home had been fired upon. Officers arrived to find that four bullets had struck the residence. No injuries were reported.
Police determined that two suspects parked a pickup truck down the road from the home, walked to the property, and then one of them fired a handgun at the house. Both suspects returned to the truck and fled the area.
On May 5, 2025, the suspect vehicle was located and seized by members of the Edmonton Police Service.
On April 18, 2026, officers from Leduc GIS and the Drumheller Detachment with assistance from the Interview Assistance Team arrested one of the suspects. Melnick, has been charged with recklessly discharging a firearm.
Melnick has been taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody for future court dates at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc.
Police continue the investigation into identifying the second suspect.
Despite these charges, police have yet to determine the motive in this case.
