On February 20, 2026, Merritt RCMP were called to a residence in the 1900‑block of Houston Street in Merritt. Upon arrival, frontline officers located a man deceased on the property. The incident has been determined to be criminal in nature, and the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) has assumed conduct of the investigation. The victim is being identified as 63‑year‑old Clive Hack. Investigators are releasing his identity for the purpose of advancing the investigation.
“Our investigators are working diligently to determine what happened, and we are asking anyone who may have information to reach out,” says acting SED MCU Unit Commander Sgt. Robert Kee “Even information that seems minor could help move this investigation forward.”
Investigators are asking anyone who was travelling in the area of Houston Street at Nicola Avenue between 10:00 p.m. on February 19, 2026, and 10:00 a.m. on February 20, 2026, to contact police and provide any dash‑cam footage. Anyone who has information about the death and has not yet spoken with investigators is asked to call the SED MCU information line at 1-877-987-8477.
