On Feb.26, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Innisfail RCMP Traffic services were investigating a motor vehicle collision on Highway 2 just south of the Town of Innisfail. The RCMP member who was investigating the collision had returned to his police vehicle to complete paperwork. While seated in the police vehicle, a white Ford Explorer collided with the stationary police vehicle which caused significant damage. The female driver of the Explorer was believed to be impaired by alcohol and she was arrested by police. The driver provided breath samples to police where she was nearly double the legal limit of alcohol. The injured RCMP member was taken to hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries but remains hospitalized for testing and treatment.
The 26-year-old female driver from Edmonton is being charged with the following offences:
- Impaired operation causing bodily harm
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
The driver has been released from custody to appear in court at the Red Deer Justice Centre on March 31, 2026.
