Homicide investigators are appealing for witnesses after a 75-year-old man who was critically injured in an assault on Canada Day died in hospital last week.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim as Larry Greig of Langley, B.C. Greig was found with life-threatening injuries near Park Avenue and Douglas Crescent in Langley on the evening of July 1 . Langley RCMP responded to reports of a man in distress at approximately 9:48 p.m. and took him to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death on July 9 .
IHIT has since taken conduct of the investigation and is working with the Langley RCMP Serious Crime Unit, Integrated Forensic Identification Services, and the BC Coroners Service . Investigators believe Greig was involved in a physical altercation shortly after leaving a licensed establishment in the area .
“Homicide investigators are looking to speak with the following individuals who were in the area at the time of the offence and may have witnessed something important,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT, in a statement .
IHIT has released surveillance images of four people believed to be potential witnesses. Three are described as men, and a fourth, blurry image is believed to be a woman who was running in the area at the time of the assault .
