On Apr. 9, shortly after 3:30 p.m., Slave Lake RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle parked near the 1500 block of Main Street South, in Slave Lake. When police attended the vehicle was no longer present. Slave Lake RCMP continued their patrol and Slave Lake RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) assisted in locating the stolen vehicle near Caribou Trail, turning eastbound onto 6 Avenue SW a short while later. Once police activated their emergency equipment, the vehicle failed to stop but ended up turning into a cul de sac without an exit. At approximately 4 p.m., the two occupants inside the vehicle fled on foot. The female suspect was arrested shortly thereafter by one officer and the male was arrested by another officer. Incidental to arrest, officers seized suspected drugs, drug paraphernalia and other items. The female was in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Lasha Yellowknee, 23, of Wabasca, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, resisting arrest, possession for the purpose of trafficking suspected heroin, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Stephen Mick Favel, 32, of Slave Lake, was arrested and charged with flight from peace officer, driving while prohibited, possession of stolen property under $5,000, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with release order.
Both Yellowknee and Favel were held in custody and appeared for their Judicial Interim Hearings. Favel was held in custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Slave Lake at 10 a.m., on April 29. Yellowknee was released and is to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Slave Lake at 10 a.m., on May 20.
