A driver is dead after someone in a passing pickup truck opened fire on a car along Highway 2 south of Leduc on Saturday afternoon, prompting Alberta RCMP Major Crimes to launch a homicide investigation and appeal for witnesses.
The shooting happened around 2:50 p.m. on March 14, near Township Road 490. According to RCMP, a witness saw a white or grey dirty pickup truck pull up beside a black 2012 Honda Civic travelling on the highway. Moments later, the pickup accelerated away at high speed while the Honda Civic veered to the shoulder and stopped.
Investigators later confirmed that a weapon had been discharged toward the Honda, killing the driver. RCMP have not released the victim’s identity.
