On March 5, 2026 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP received reports of an adult male armed with a firearm and a knife.
Further investigation determined the male had threatened two individuals with the weapons. The individuals did not report physical injuries to police. Investigators also determined the male has assaulted an individual, who reported non-life-threatening injuries to police.
Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP located the male parked in a vehicle on Burnouf Street in Île-à-la-Crosse. The vehicle was subsequently searched, and the firearm, machete, as well as other weapons were seized. The male was arrested.
24-year-old Taza McCallum from Île-à-la-Crosse is charged with:
- one count, using firearm in commission of offence, Section 85(2), Criminal Code;
- two counts, assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
- four counts, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1), Criminal Code;
- five counts, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code; and
- one count, assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm, Section 267(c), Criminal Code.
