Second suspect arrested in home invasion
A Guelph man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion-style robbery over the weekend.
Just after 2 a.m. Sunday police were called to an address near Watson Parkway North and Starwood Drive. A resident said several people had entered his apartment and dragged him out of bed. He was sprayed with bear spray and robbed of his wallet and a diamond ring. The intruders also claimed to have a gun but none was seen.
Security cameras showed three men arriving at the building in a black sedan and entering with a woman who was already on scene. Minutes later all four are seen fleeing in the sedan at a high rate of speed.
A few hours after the incident a 35-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for break and enter, robbery, assault with a weapon and administering a noxious substance.
On Tuesday, approximately 8:30 a.m., officers saw a man riding a motorized scooter in the area of Delaware Avenue and Mohawk Drive and knew him to be wanted for the Sunday incident as well as an earlier disturbance in September.
The man was stopped and investigation revealed the scooter had been stolen Sunday from outside a nearby business. A search revealed four tightly-wrapped packages of cocaine and other controlled substances.
A 31-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts each of robbery and assault with a weapon, break and enter, administer a noxious substance, mischief under $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing stolen property. He was held for a bail hearing October 21.
Girl followed by stranger
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a teenage girl reported being followed by a stranger who tried to talk to her Tuesday evening.
Shortly before 7 p.m. police were called to an address near Victoria Road North and Brant Avenue. A 15-year-old girl reported she was walking with a friend when they noticed a man who appeared to be following them. The man got closer and said he wanted to talk to them and made a disturbing comment.
The girl ran home and called police and the man kept walking. He was described as black, 18-25 years, short with full facial hair and very large eyes and spoke with an accent.

Thief detained and held by victim
A Guelph man faces theft and other charges after he was caught and detained while breaking into a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Approximately 1:20 p.m. police were called to a plaza near Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road West. A man had entered a vehicle and stole cash. The owner of the vehicle saw this and he and other witnesses detained the suspect.
Officers arrived a short time later and placed the man under arrest. Investigation revealed he had a bag containing approximately $270 in clothing stolen a short time earlier from a store at Stone Road Mall.
He provided a false name but his true identity was determined a short time later and he was found to be bound by a probation order.
A 26-year-old Guelph man is charged with two coutns of theft under $5,000, obstructing police and breaching a probation order. He will appear in court November 25.
