Former executive director of the Kataujaq Society in Rankin Inlet, Joyce Kent, 54, has been arrested in connection with an allegation over missing funds, Nunavut RCMP announced Friday afternoon.
On March 18, 2025, the Iqaluit RCMP’s GIS unit with the assistance of the Manitoba RCMP’s Integrated Law Enforcement Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where they located and arrested Former Executive Director of the Kataujaq Society.
In August 2024, a complaint was received by the RCMP of missing funds from the Kataujaq Society in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. The Iqaluit RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS) launched Project Reclamation shortly thereafter.
Kent was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 3, 2025, in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut
“Ms. Kent used her position of trust to misappropriate funds that were otherwise destined for the work of the Women’s Shelter and the Daycare in Rankin Inlet. The RCMP takes these complaints very seriously. As Canada’s National Police Force, the RCMP operates from coast to coast. Leaving Nunavut does not put someone outside the reach of the Nunavut RCMP,” said Corporal Rodney MacIntyre of the Iqaluit RCMP’s GIS Unit.
