Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate dangerous driving incident, public help sought

Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating a number of complaints of a black motorcycle racing throughout Fort McMurray over the past week. On July 22, 2024 at around 12:00 a.m., a black motorcycle, with an excessively loud engine and no licence plate attached, was driving erratically on Franklin Avenue in downtown Fort McMurray. The motorcycle was driving at times, in excess of 200 kph, nearly colliding with multiple vehicles and pedestrians in the area. RCMP attempted a traffic stop with the motorcycle however it failed to stop, increasing its speed in an attempt to evade police. Due to the significant risk to the public and the driver, a pursuit was not engaged. This same motorcycle was then later observed engaging in high speed driving and stunting in the Timberlea area in an attempt to bait police.

On July 23, 2024 at around 7 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP again observed the same black motorcycle. Police attempted to stop the motorcycle while it was on Woodpecker Way but the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed, nearly striking one of the police vehicles as he fled.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Black sport model motorcycle with no licence plate
  • Red and black helmet
