An officer was injured after the driver of a stolen vehicle rammed two RCMP vehicles in Steinbach during a traffic stop on Jan. 11.
The driver of the stolen vehicle refused to stop for police and drove to a dead-end street and officers contained the area but the driver rammed and pushed a police vehicle out of the way. When a second police vehicle tried stopping the vehicle, the driver struck that police vehicle and then collided with a fence.
James Friesen, 39, has been charged with assault of a police officer with a weapon, assault on a police officer causing bodily harm, flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of property obtained by crime, theft of a truck, and five counts of mischief over $5,000.
Friesen was remanded into custody.
The passenger was released without charges.
