The St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Janvier was destroyed by fire Saturday night and police are looking for a silver sedan witnesses saw driving away from the church around the time it went up in flames.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say they got a call about the fire around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 15. When they arrived, the church was fully engulfed in flames.
Earlier this month, two more churches were destroyed by fire in northern Alberta. RCMP believe both of those fires are arson and connected.
On Dec. 7, at approximately 7:52 p.m., Barrhead RCMP responded to a structure fire at The Glenreagh Church, located on Range Road 40 in Barrhead. Two hours later, Barrhead RCMP responded to a second structure fire at The United Church, located on Range Road 54 in Barrhead.
Alberta RCMP are investigating all of the fires.
