Police believe there may be more victims
Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit has charged 35-year-old basketball coach Richard Chong with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.
Chong was arrested on Dec. 13 and held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Peel police say that the charges are from assaults against a 16-year-old girl alleged to have occurred between the spring of 2022 and the summer of 2023. During her time on the team, she was allegedly sexually assaulted by her coach.
Richard Chong has worked as a basketball coach for the past 13years in multiple areas within the Greater Toronto Area and has currently been employed as a basketball coach and volunteer within the Region of Peel.
Investigators are concerned that there may be additional victims and ask anyone with any information to contact the Special Victims Unit at 905-453-2121, extension 3460.
