Surrey lifeguard charged with sexual interference, luring a child

A 24-year-old man has been charged with sexual interference against a minor and luring a child at the of Surrey Recreation Centre. Jakob Truong of Surrey as a lifeguard at the time.

Surrey RCMP’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) investigation led to the charge on Oct. 25.

On April 11, Surrey RCMP had received the complaint of alleged sexual interference of a minor at the City of Surrey Recreation Centre. They arrested Truong in April and he was released on conditions. On Oct 25, he was charged with sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and luring a child. He was released on conditions that he stay 100 metres from the victim’s home, school, or place of worship, not be within 100 metres of City Recreation Center, and not go to any place where a person under 16 may be present unless prior permission from his bail supervisor.

Surrey RCMP have been working closely with the City of Surrey, said Surrey Media Relations Officer, Corporal Sarbjit Sangha. 

“We encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and request to speak with the Special Victims Unit,” added Sangha.

RCMP released the information about the charges on Nov. 30.
