The North Vancouver RCMP are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire that occurred at about 9:40 p.m. on Nov. 20.
North Vancouver RCMP were alerted by District of North Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (DNVFRS) of a suspicious vehicle fire near W 1st St and MacKay Rd in North Vancouver. A passerby noted a fire under a vehicle that was parked on the south side of W 1st St and called the fire department. DNVFRS responded and put out the fire. The vehicle in question is a truck with a camper on the bed.
The occupant of the truck, who was sleeping inside the camper at the time of fire, was alerted by DNVFRS and safely escaped.
“We are extremely grateful that the man living inside the camper was able to safely escape, said Cst. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP. “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and are working closely with the DNVFRS to determine the cause of the fire.”
During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the original caller was informed by two men that they observed an unidentified man on a bicycle throw an object under the camper truck before the fire was observed. The two men have yet to be identified and investigators are looking to speak to these two witnesses in an effort to further our investigation.
Anyone who witnessed or has video of the incident and has not spoken to police, is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file 23-24844.
