School locked down, residents told to lock doors as Red Deer RCMP search for armed man

Police were searching for armed man 32-year-old Christopher Lee Furgason on Nov. 24, told residents in Riverside Meadows to shelter in place and locked down all nearby schools for several hours.

Red Deer RCMP eventually told the public that the shelter in place order had been lifted and there was no longer a concern for public safety. They didn’t specify why.

The incident started earlier in the day after Red Deer RCMP were called to a firearms complaint in the area of 59 Avenue between 60 Street and 60a street in the city of Red Deer. They released Furgason’s photo and warned the public that he was considered armed and dangerous.
