At approximately 1:30 p.m. on April 29, officers responded to a call involving a person with a firearm in the Sparks Street area.
Officers located the individual on Rideau Street between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street. During the altercation, a member of the Ottawa Police Service discharged their firearm, hitting the individual.
They were taken to the hospital in critical condition. They are now in stable condition.
None of the officers on the scene suffered physical injuries.
As a precautionary measure, the doors to the Rideau Centre were locked.
There is no ongoing threat to public safety.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has been contacted.
