A 32-year-old Skidegate man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal collision that occurred earlier this week in the Haida Gwaii community in BC.
The BC Prosecution Service has approved the charge against Tyson Young in connection with the April 22 death of a pedestrian in the 200 block of Front Street in Skidegate.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 1:17 p.m. that day after reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. The victim later succumbed to his injuries.
From the outset, Daajing Giids RCMP treated the incident as a targeted attack.
Following the arrest, the North District Major Crime Unit assumed control of the investigation. While acknowledging public concern about the pace of the case, Sgt. Manseau said officers have been working around the clock.
Investigators are still seeking witnesses or video footage from the area. Anyone with information, including CCTV or dash cam video, who has not yet spoken with police is urged to contact the Daajing Giids RCMP at 250-559-4421.
