The Toronto Police Service is investigating the murder of Mangok Akol, 27, at the Toronto South Detention Centre.
On March 24, 2025, at approximately 6:03 p.m., police attended a call for an Assault at the Toronto South Detention Centre. Police say an inmate was assaulted by another inmate. The victim, Akol, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital where he remained in critical condition. On March 27, 2025, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Andre Ford, 32, of Toronto, was charged with aggravated assault and police say they are upgrading his charges to second-degree murder.
This is Toronto’s 8th Homicide of 2025.
