Arsenault arrested after overdose death of Stoney Nakoda Nation

On Feb. 13, Randall Arsenault was convicted in an Alberta court and was sentenced to 729 days in prison and a lifetime firearms prohibition.
Cochrane RCMP welcomed the conviction and said they continue to work diligently to combat drug trafficking in their detachment area.
“Cochrane RCMP remains committed to supporting the safety of all communities we serve, including the Stoney Nakoda Nations,” said S/Sgt Chad Fournier, Acting Officer-in-Charge of Cochrane Detachment. “We will continue to target those involved in drug trafficking and work proactively to reduce the presence of fentanyl in our area. This outcome demonstrates the importance of strong policing partnerships, and we thank the Calgary Police Service for their assistance in bringing this investigation to a conclusion.”
In early October of 2025, Cochrane RCMP responded to a suspected overdose death in the Mînî Thnî area of Stoney Nakoda Nations. Cochrane RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) initiated an investigation into the potential source of the drugs involved. Through the course of the investigation, a suspected drug trafficker was identified. The suspect resided in Calgary. Cochrane RCMP coordinated with the Calgary Police Service Drug Unit to advance the investigation.
On Oct. 29, 2025, Cochrane CRU, along with the CPS Gang Suppression Team (GST), arrested Randall Arsenault (58), a resident of Calgary.
During the arrest, police seized approximately 69.5 grams of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
