RED DEER, Alta. — On Aug. 27, at 10:15 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a 911 call for a report of a collision into a residence in the Highland Green Estates neighbourhood of Red Deer.
Police responded with Red Deer Emergency Services (RDES) after a vehicle collided with a parked car and a residence, causing significant damage to both the vehicle and structure. The driver of the suspect vehicle initially fled from the scene and later returned, cooperating with police.
The structural damage was limited to the fence, garage, and side of the residence. At the time of the collision, the parked car and residence were unoccupied. No injuries were sustained.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 29-year-old female, resident of Red Deer, was arrested and charged for impaired driving. The driver was issued a 90-day driving suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment, in accordance with the Traffic Safety Act, Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS).
The driver was also arrested and released on conditions pending crown approval, for the following charges:
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired,
- Operation while impaired over 80 mg of alcohol,
- Mischief over $5000,
- Failure to stop after accident.
The driver, who cannot be named until an Information is sworn, was released from custody with conditions, and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Oct. 9, 2026.
Furthermore, on the same evening at 10:42 p.m., Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRT) identified a second impaired driver in the downtown area of Red Deer.
As a result of proactive patrols, police arrested and charged 32-year-old Jessy MacKinnon, a resident of Red Deer, for outstanding warrants, as well as the following:
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired,
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired over 80mg of alcohol,
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle,
- Operate motor vehicle without registration.
MacKinnon was held for a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing and was released from custody to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Sept. 9, 2026.
