40-year-old man has been arrested after an incident involving the killing of a kitten and an assault with a weapon against a woman at an apartment complex in the 400 block of William Avenue.
The incident occurred on May 2, 2026, at approximately 11 p.m., according to Winnipeg police.
The victim, a 43-year-old woman, entered the common hallway of her apartment building after hearing the sound of a cat in distress. There, she located a deceased kitten. She confronted a 40-year-old male resident whom she believed was responsible for the animal’s death.
Police say the suspect responded by throwing a kitchen knife at the woman. The knife did not strike her, and no injuries were reported.
Central District General Patrol officers attended the scene and took the suspect into custody. A knife was seized during the arrest.
The man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and killing or injuring animals.
He was released on an undertaking. Further court proceedings have not yet been scheduled.
