RCMP arrested a youth Monday night after threats were sent over Snapchat indicating an intent to shoot students at William E. Hay School in Stettler.
Police say the report came in at 10:15 p.m. on April 15. Officers with the Stettler RCMP launched an immediate investigation and quickly gathered evidence to support an arrest. A youth suspect was taken into custody, and charges for uttering threats are pending. The youth will appear before a Justice of the Peace to determine release conditions and future court dates.
RCMP say they do not believe there is an ongoing risk to students or staff. Even so, the detachment and the School Resource Officer are working with school officials, and police will maintain a visible presence at the school out of an abundance of caution.
