RCMP arrest man.
Sooke RCMP are investigating a fatal house fire that occurred early Sunday morning in Sooke.
On April 5, 2026, at approximately 5:21 a.m., police responded alongside Sooke Fire Rescue to a report of a structure fire at a single-family residence. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second person was transported to hospital with serious injuries and remains in care.
At this early stage of the investigation, there is no indication of criminality. Sooke RCMP are working in close partnership with the BC Coroners Service and the Sooke Fire Department to determine the cause of the fire.
“Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family, friends, and loved ones of the person who lost their life in this tragic incident,” said Cpl. Brett Urano RCMP spokesperson. “This is a difficult and heartbreaking situation, and we recognize the impact it has on everyone affected.”
