On Jan. 8, 2026, around 4:20 p.m., Crowsnest Pass RCMP responded to reports of an erratic driver on Highway 22, South of Highway 520. Initial reports suggested that the driver may have been impaired. RCMP officers responded and located the vehicle. When an officer approached the vehicle, they observed a male walk by the trunk while another was sitting in the passenger seat.
The officer smelled alcohol and placed the male under arrest. The male resisted and assaulted the police officer before fleeting the scene on foot. Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services arrived on scene and a Police Dog was deployed, tracking and finally subduing the male. The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital as a result.

- Assaulting a police officer;
- Resisting arrest;
- Obstruction;

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; and
- Refusal of an ASD Demand.
Edwards was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Lethbridge on Jan. 12, 2026.
