On Friday, December 26, 2025, at 6:11 a.m., police responded to a call for a Fire in the Charles Street and Yonge Street area.
It is alleged that Loewen Wolfe, 36, of Toronto, deliberately set a tent and mattress on fire. He also threw various items on top of the tent to accelerate the fire. The victim, Keith Appleby, 51, was pulled from the burning tent and taken to hospital in life-threatening condition
Appleby, was pronounced dead on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Wolfe has been charged with first-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Ave West, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 2 p.m., in room 106.
The Homicide and Missing Persons Unit has taken carriage of the investigation. This is Toronto’s 43rd Homicide of 2025.
