Three men are acing charges related to the fatal stabbing of an unhoused man over the weekend.
The victim, 42-year-old Manuel De Jesus Garcia Zamora, was attacked early Sunday morning in an encampment near the Place St-Henri métro station.
Nigel Moses, 40, is charged with second-degree murder. The two other accused—Leamcharoeung Yort, 50, and Vincent Gagné Giard, 29—are charged with aggravated assault.
Montreal police reported they responded to a 911 call around 3:20 a.m. on Sunday regarding a fight between two people near the intersection of Charlebois and St-Philippe Streets. Officers found the victim conscious in a wooded area between the métro station and railroad tracks, but his condition deteriorated and he died shortly afterward.
This stabbing marks the 29th homicide in Montreal this year. During the same period last year, 32 homicides had been reported.
