Update: On Sept. 27, 2025, around 1:17 a.m., Jasper RCMP responded to an altercation at the Jasper Legion that resulted in the death of 56-year-old Valemont, BC, resident Douglas Gunville. An autopsy was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary, who ruled the death a homicide.
As a result of the investigation, Josh Myhr (29), a resident of Hinton, Alta., was charged with manslaughter. He was brought before a justice of the peace and was released on conditions.

On Sept. 27, 2025, around 1:17 a.m., Jasper RCMP responded to an altercation at the Jasper Legion. Upon arrival, a male was located on the ground, needing medical attention. EMS was called to the scene, where they pronounced the male deceased.
Identity of the male has not been confirmed but he is believed to be a resident of Jasper. A second male was taken into custody and the investigation is on-going. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and the Edson RCMP Forensic Identification Section has been called in to assist.
An update is anticipated once more information becomes available.
