Saskatchewan awaits new officers with hands-on experience, adventure, and a fast track to federal policing
The RCMP is rolling out an enticing opportunity for prospective officers in Ontario, offering a three-year posting in Saskatchewan packed with action, training, and a guaranteed path to federal policing — if they choose to leave.
Under a new agreement between the Saskatchewan RCMP and the RCMP’s Federal Policing Program in Ontario, recruits who want to eventually work in Central Region (Ontario) will first spend three years in Saskatchewan, gaining crucial frontline experience before transitioning to federal duties.
How it works
New officers who express interest in the program will be posted to Saskatchewan, where they’ll handle diverse policing challenges across the province’s vast rural and remote areas. After completing their three-year term, they’ll have the option to move into the Federal Policing Program in Ontario, unless they decide to stay in Saskatchewan or pursue another assignment.
Why Saskatchewan?
The province offers recruits an unbeatable mix of professional growth and lifestyle perks:
Unmatched Policing Experience: With the RCMP covering 99.9 per cent of Saskatchewan’s landmass, officers encounter everything from highway patrols to major investigations.
Affordable Living: Lower housing costs and a strong quality of life make it ideal for saving money or starting a family.
Outdoor Paradise: Over 100,000 lakes, endless trails, and year-round activities, from fishing and boating in summer to snowmobiling and ice fishing in winter, mean adventure is always within reach.
A stepping stone to federal policing
This program ensures recruits develop skills that may be harder to gain in busier urban divisions. After their Saskatchewan stint, they’ll have priority placement in Ontario’s Federal Policing Program, unless the prairies win them over for good.
How to apply
New Applicants: Mention your interest in the program to your RCMP recruiter.
Current Cadets: Those still in Depot training can request Saskatchewan placement through their Resourcing Advisor.
