In an incident on Saturday evening, a male suspect used a stolen piece of heavy equipment to cause extensive damage at the Bonnyville RCMP detachment.
At approximately 6:55 p.m. on May 3, a man drove a stolen trackhoe into the RCMP parking lot, where he dumped several large boulders in front of the prisoner bay. The suspect then used the equipment to damage five police vehicles parked nearby before fleeing the scene on foot.

Bonnyville RCMP, supported by Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), launched an immediate search. The suspect was located a short time later in a tree line northwest of the detachment and was taken into custody without incident.
He remains in custody pending a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. His identity has not been released, as charges have not yet been formally sworn before the court.
