The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Homicide Unit is appealing to the public for information after a violent altercation early this morning left one man dead and two others injured.
The incident occurred around 1:55 a.m. in the 700 block of 10 Avenue S.W., outside Commonwealth Bar and Stage. Police responded to reports of a fight in a nearby parking lot, where they found three victims—one with fatal stab wounds.
A 21-year-old man was rushed to hospital by EMS but was pronounced dead upon arrival. A second victim remains hospitalized in stable condition, while a third has since been treated and released.
Officers quickly secured the area and took four suspects into custody. They remain detained as the investigation continues.
Investigators believe multiple witnesses filmed the altercation on their cellphones and are urging anyone with footage—including dashcam or surveillance video—to come forward. Police are particularly interested in speaking with a potential witness who left the scene in a dark-coloured Tesla. Authorities stress this individual is not a suspect but may have crucial information.
“Our investigators are working tirelessly to piece together the events that led up to this fatal altercation,” says Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the CPS Homicide Unit. “It is believed that this was an alcohol-fuelled fight, that tragically took the life of one man. We are committed to finding answers for the victim’s family and are pleading with anyone with information to come forward.”
The motive remains unclear at this time.
