On February 4, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m, the Iqaluit RCMP conducted a traffic stop by the Nunavut Legislative building on Sivumugiaq Street.
During the traffic stop, police were able to identify a passenger who was wanted in relation to three separate police investigation and was arrested on scene.
Upon the arrest, police located a loaded prohibited firearm in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was also arrested after the discovery of the weapon.
The Iqaluit RCMP have charged Robert Campbell (age 36) and Nadeem Gebara (age 40) with:
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94 C.C;
- Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, Section 95(b) C.C;
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, Section 92(1) C.C; and
- Careless transportation of a loaded prohibited firearm, Section 86(2) C.C
Campbell was remanded into custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 4, 2025 in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Gebara was released following a bail hearing and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 3, 2025, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
