On October 23, 2024, a youth appeared in Surrey Provincial Court and entered a guilty plea to manslaughter. The sentencing hearing is currently scheduled for January 9, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at the Surrey Provincial Courthouse.
On November 22, 2022, the Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the parking lot of Tamanawis Secondary School located at 12600 66 Avenue, Surrey. Frontline officers attended and located Mehakpreet Sethi stabbed. Despite life-saving efforts, Sethi succumbed to his injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in to investigate.
On November 20, 2023, BC Prosecution Service approved charges of Second-Degree murder against a youth.
