Canadian Coast Guard employee lost at sea: CCG

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) has declared one of its crew members as “lost at sea” as their search for the worker ended Wednesday night.

The worker was last seen on board the CCGS Vincent Massey on Sunday evening and the vessel was sailing along the northeast coast of Newfoundland.

The employee was reported missing on Monday morning when the ship arrived in St. John’s, N.L. and the Coast Guard says there was an immediate search.

“We are devastated to confirm that one of our own employees has been lost at sea. Crews conducted an extensive search and rescue operation at sea and in the air, which ended last night,” the CCG said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the missing crew member, the crew of the CCGS Vincent Massey and all our employees. This is a time of mourning. We ask that the family’s and our personnel’s privacy be respected at this time. Media can direct their questions to our media relations office.”
