The Pas RCMP rescue stranded boaters, including infant

On August 2, 2024, at approximately 10:00 pm, The Pas RCMP received a report that a boater was stranded with his wife, infant son, and two dogs on Clearwater Lake as the boat’s power and propulsion failed. They were located two kilometres from shore near Camper’s Cove boat launch.

RCMP learned that the boaters, from Mitchell, Manitoba, had been stranded for more than three hours and were adrift with no natural daylight, as they had been trying to fix the boat. The conditions were rapidly deteriorating, with winds and waves picking up. The boaters were not aware of what direction they were drifting as there was no light.

When the rescue team of three RCMP officers hit the water, they encountered three- to four-foot waves. As they searched the area, they saw a blinking light and were alerted to the boat’s location. The boat was dangerously close to a reef, which could have caused the vessel to founder. The rescue team had to work quickly to maneuver around the reef, secure the boat, and tow it back to shore. All occupants were physically uninjured.
