Edmonton woman Crystal MacDonald charged in dog attack that killed boy, 11, in south Edmonton

On July 24, 2024, Crystal Jean MacDonald, 44, was charged with criminal negligence causing death. The Edmonton Police Service Homicide section laid the charge in relation to an April 2024 dog attack that killed Kache Grist, 11, of Osoyoos, B.C. He was in Edmonton visiting his father at the time.

Just before 8 p.m. on Monday, Apr. 1, 2024, Southeast Branch patrol officers responded to the report of a dog attack at a residence in the area of 82 Street and 11 Avenue SW. Upon arrival, officers located a severely injured 11-year-old boy who had been attacked by two large dogs. Police attempted lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived on scene. The boy died from his injuries shortly after.

The two dogs were seized by Animal Control Peace Officers. The dogs belonged to a roommate of the boy’s father, whom the boy was visiting at the time of the attack, say RCMP.
