Slave Lake RCMP arrest Dusty Yellowknee and Ruben Houle for ATV theft and find home-made firearm

On July 23, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Slave Lake RCMP received a report of two males that were trespassing on a rural property and then stole an ATV from a residence on the Old Smith Highway in the MD of Lesser Slave River approximately 30 kilometers from Slave Lake.

RCMP attended and located two males matching the description who fled into the bush and then into the river.  RCMP were able to apprehend them both and place them under arrest.  While conducting a search Incidental to arrest RCMP located a home-made shotgun belonging to one of the involved parties.

As a result of the investigation Ruben Richard Houle (27), who is a resident of Slave Lake is charged with:

  • Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
  • Possession of a Weapon dangerous to the Public Peace
  • Possession of a Firearm without valid licence
  • Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited by Order (x4)

Also as a result of the investigation Dusty Yellowknee (27), who is also a resident of Slave Lake is charged with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking

Both Houle and Yellowknee had a judicial interim release hearing and did not speak to their bail and thus were remanded to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Slave Lake on August 14, 2024.

“These results would not be possible if it were not for the quick 911 call from the victim who also provided a detailed description,” says Staff Sergeant Casey Bruyns, Slave Lake RCMP Detachment Commander. “By working together, this case was solved quickly and these offenders are now before the courts.”
