Kimmirut RCMP involved in shooting

On July 15, at approximately 10:30 p.m. the Kimmirut RCMP received a complaint that a person was shooting a firearm from their residence. This led the RCMP to issue a Shelter in Place alert.

When RCMP members arrived on scene, the suspect began firing towards the officers, striking the police vehicle. As an RCMP member took cover, the suspect fled the scene on an ATV. A second Shelter in Place alert was issued, advising residence that the suspect was on an ATV. The suspect was later apprehended with the assistance from a local resident. The suspect was taken into custody and the Shelter in Place was lifted. No injuries were reported.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Kimmirut, is currently in RCMP custody awaiting a remand hearing.
